Madeline Rile Smith
Some Like it Hot: Flameworking Fundamentals and Beyond
May 30 - June 2 (4-day workshop)

This class teaches an array of techniques for beginners to experienced flameworkers looking to enhance their skills. We will cover the fundamentals of solid and hollow sculpting and flame control, developing a solid foundation for more advanced projects.

We will explore the possibilities of color application in borosilicate, with a range of methods that can be applied to jewelry, marbles, and more. We will cover the "networking" technique, which gives students the ability to create larger sculptures in practically any form. Demonstrations will include bridging and assembly, and attention will be given to proper seals to create strong, long-lasting objects with an emphasis on developing the best habits and strategies for success.

Botanical forms and flowers will be covered in this class, as well as small blown vessels, and assembly of larger pieces. Instruction will also include guidance and problem-solving support for individual projects.

This class meets from 9am to 5pm each day, Tuesday through Friday, with additional studio time Tuesday through Thursday, from 5pm to 9pm. Materials included, though if you have particular colors you would like to work with please bring them with you.
